'Can China be green by 2020?'

The exceptional China growth over the last few years has had a huge cost to the environment.
The damages of the air have not been only for China but for the entire world.
China recently overtook the United States as the world's biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, and other countries like Brazil, Russia and India, which are growing too fast, are emitting a great amount of carbon dioxide.
Nowadays China is the world's biggest consumer of coal and oil, almost the whole of its energy needs are dependent on coal, which is one of the most atmospheric pollutants.
China used to have that typical image of Chinese riding their bikes; however nowadays instead of their bike they have a car. The number of cars in China has increased a lot over the past decade, with thousands of vehicles arriving to the capital every week.
Everyday there are news about deads related with pollution diseases, so China accepted the need of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases, with the condition that developed countries will have strict rules too.
Each year more than 400,000 people die of diseases related with pollution in China.
The main concern in China is not only the air quality, but also the acid rain, which is affecting a third of the Chinese territory. The rain, which is mainly provoked by pollution, has a direct impact on the country's food production, and in the water quality.
During the Olympics Games, China had been investing in environmental cares, in order to show to the world that China could be “good” for the environment.
'If China can develop alternative energy sources and reduce emissions, the country might in 2020 be an example of how economic development and environmental protection can work together. '
